Our Country

You’re welcome to know more about Chile.

Chile is located in the southwest end of South America. It’s oficial name is Republico f Chile and it’s capital is Santiago. For it’s better organization, our country is divided into 15 regions, 53 provinces and 346 counties. Each region has got a representing figure, at first it was assigned in a north to south order, except for the Metropolitan Region.
Because of its length Chile has got several kinds of climates:

The North:
T
he north of Chile is a desert, it doesn´t rain in this place. Temperatures have little variations during the year with an average of 20ºC. Northern shores are bathed by Corriente de Humboltd, which cools and balances the environment, allowing in this way to have a special type of fog , which is known as “camanchaca”. To the interior, there are no cahnges in the temperature ranges, for that reason , the skies are very clear without clouds, little humidity. This is a great benift for those who love astronomy, this region is prefered by astronomers to set their observatories. In the high lands temperatures get down and the climate here is known as cold steparic which main feature is the rain during summertime. In the zone of Norte Chico the climate is semi-dry with irregular episodes of rain that concentrate in Winter. This is a transition cimate to the colder ones of the south.

The Central Zone:

This zone has mainly got a mediterranean climate, in the hights of Los Andes Mountains the weather is colder due to the altitude. The seasons of the year are clearly recognized, Summer is dry and hot, while Winter is cold and rainy. The seaside zone ‘s temperatures are regulated by the sea effect and to the interior there’s a thermal change because the coastal mountains act as a climate screen.

The South:

In the South rains are very abundant and the climate is rainy. In stepping onto southern lands the climate the climate turns to cold steparic which main features are big temperature ranges, low temperatures and snow. The Antartic has a polar climate.
